Sounds like a humble man who is trying to do his best for God. He's avoided all the pomp of his position as a Cardinal and instead taken the bus and lived very simply. I think time will tell. He seems to believe in trying to get out and do something rather than just criticize others.
On the issue of significant changes to rectify problems within the Catholic church he seems a bit weak. Where they need to stop the celibacy deal and confront the pedophile problem I doubt he will move on those. Time will tell. The Lord Knows!

Hey Folks, Great to have the forum on again. I've never been real keen on the catholic church, but he does look like a better man. I'm with Tom in that time will tell. So many rituals and traditions there that they loose sight of the simplicity of Christ. Hope he's watched the movie brother sun on St Francis of Assisi... If he can live that they should do better.
It's a long way from when Pope Innocent the 3rd blessed and kissed the feet of the young Francis of Assisi, to a Pope being named Francis. You have to hope he'll live the name and inspire his church to follow! |

They have some real issues to address, but they are a more sincere group in Latin American than other places so he might do well.

I think he is a very wonderful and sincere man who has a heart for the simple soul. He is not above riding the bus or paying his own hotel bill and he's really trying to walk in the walk. Please pray for his strength and encouragement. At 76 such a heavy burden cannot be easy. I do think he will help cause a real comeback of Latin Christians and a growth of the Church worldwide. God Bless him!
